Hi everyone! I’m really struggling today. Been working a lot lately and even though I’m doing okay on my progress, I’m feeling very run down. Ended up eating all my calories and it’s not even dinner yet. What do you guys do to refocus during difficult times?

I agree with Rose! When people see my plate, and how much I have, my husband will automatically say, "it's volume eating." lol

Keith A.

Lots of great suggestions here - you can do it!

Getting worried. I’m up 1.4 lbs since the beginning. Maybe doing two back to back 4% dietbets was too much. I’m 34 now, I feel like when I stuck to a program in my 20s the weight continued to fall off as long as I was consistent. I’m going to up the ante and decrease my caloric intake to 1200 and fast longer between meals. Hoping that’s the perfect turning point. After this game I’ll give my body a month to maintain. We have what ten days left…? Whew.

I’ve had that experience. I wait a couple weeks at least before doing another diet bet so that I know my weight is stable. Not sure if that makes sense.

  • 1.9 pounds to reach my goal. How are all team members progressing? Does anyone here do meal preparation? I like to take a day and prepare a wide variety of healthy meals. Below I fix bake salmon and vegetables, for this week I also fix shrimp with broccoli, carrot, cauliflower, and red and green peppers. Additionally, I fix chicken chop suey with cabbage, carrot red and green peppers, and a few handfuls of spinach.

Amazing! You are so blessed to have yourself as a chef. Way to pamper yourself ?

I've never done meal prep, but then my meals don't usually look like your do!

  • Today has been a really awful day. I mean REALLY awful!

I'm so motivated to lose weight right now, but my body seems to be fighting me. I thought I was getting to the point where I could start on some serious walking leading to getting back on my bicycle sometime this spring. But the knee I had replaced last June has "exploded" in pain and pressure on each of the last two days, to the point where I can barely walk. I've had to go back to using a cane for stability this evening, and getting in and out of a car is a painful ordeal. Orthopedist appt. made for this Friday.

On top of that, the heart issue I thought I was on top of kicked back in today, perhaps from all the pain. I'm supposed to be having a cardiologist call to make an appointment but it hasn't happened yet, so I will chase that down tomorrow.

    I'm so frustrated!

But...there is good news. Before the weight loss began in January, this would have been an evening where I would have tried to drown my frustration in unhealthy foods, looking for soul-less flavor to try to cheer me up.

But not today. I just ate my last snack of the day, and I'm still 300 calories under my goal! I needed this victory, but I was so busy feeling sorry for myself that I didn't see it until just a few minutes ago.

Healthy habits can move us forward, and they can sustain us when we fall backwards. I want comfort, but not in food that will do me no good.

Thanks for letting me vent. Hopefully tomorrow goes better than today, but if it doesn't, I still won't turn to food to comfort my pain. I'm too good for that!

Sorry to hear about these complications Keith. So proud of you for getting back to the straight and narrow despite adversity!!

Rose L.

Sending all the positive vibes your way! I hope they are able to get you fixed back up quickly. In the meantime, nutrition is what you can control. Maybe try some upper body exercises while sitting for activity? Keep a positive attitude. I can see how much you inspire others here, let us lift you up in support too!

Prioritize protein over basically everyone other macronutrient. It really does help with hunger and muscle retention.

Karen R.

I’ve finally started to walk every day. Some days it is 3.5 miles and others it is 1 mile. I have to keep moving and just don’t see the scale move unless I am.

  • What are you plans to keep yourself from derailing your progress over the weekend?

I will stick to the plan and prepare all my meals like during the weekday, with the exception of a potato bar at a church event on Sunday. But potatoes are part of my diet, so as long as I don't load them up with high-calorie toppings, I should be good.

Love this! Staying strong this weekend even though I’m sick. I know falling off the wagon wouldn’t help me feel any better. Mind over matter.

I have meal prep. Have activities Sunday with the grandkids!

For Lent this year, I'm giving up alcohol... don't need those extra useless calories anyway! I'm telling everyone so I can stay accountable!

Totally agree! Alcohol derails me in so many ways. I’m always starving the day after.

I’ve stopped drinking January 16th this year. Keep it up!

  • Anyone else listen to the American Glutton podcast? Ethan is so positive and motivating. I listened to it a bunch during the 2020 lockdowns and I got down to 150 lbs (I’m 207 lbs now…). He motivates you to only look at yourself for progress, not to compare to others, and to most importantly kill your clone from the previous day.

My 1 year old is very sick so I won’t be able to go to the gym all week. Usually I’d self sabotage. But instead I’m writing down everything I eat and meal prepping each day. I’m also sticking to my other routines, and telling myself it’s just a few days. As soon as my husband is off work by Sunday—regardless of the baby—I’ll have four solid days of exercise opportunities again.

Great recommendation! I will look up that podcast. Maybe try some home workouts? YouTube has tons, it’s actually insane. Hard to pick one out because there are so many.

My weekend was not the greatest but not horrible. I drank too much sugar yesterday while out which is not typical for me but I splurged. Resetting and going to kick butt this week.

Mary B.

I was disappointed the weather was so cold and windy, boohoo. I managed to stay on track because I had meal prepped, which I don't do enough. Stayed busy, but mostly in the house.

Hey everyone, I finished another game under a week ago and found this really motivating so have signed up again. I am a bit nervous about maintaining this speed of weight loss for another month because the last game was tough.

I have just started increasing exercise, but I know that normally makes me put on a bit of weight before it starts coming off. Those who have done this before, have you found that increasing exercise helped you lose the 4%?

Not exercise in general. But everytime I have successfully lot much weight, it was by increasing my walking. That gets harder the older I get, and especially in the winter - so I’m banking on nicer weather sooner. Good luck to you.

Laura F.

Exercise is great for overall health and IF you do not increase your food intake you will burn more calories by exercising and thereby lose more weight. Losing weight is 100% "calories in, calories out". I agree with Mariah that is is possible to have an initial slight weight gain from an increase in muscle mass but that is short-lived as Mariah says. And if you focus on calorie reduction and exercise, you will be successful. Remember it's all about calories.
