Can we all be honest and say we're disappointed in winning 3-4 dollars back? This is the largest pot/bet I've joined and I was hoping for at least 2x-3x the final earnings back.

Idk Diet bet... maybe you all should offer us a free game. HW does this periodically.

I think the New Year's Kickstarter in particular has a very high winning percentage because everybody goes so hard on New Year's Eve that their weigh-ins are super high. By the time you've sobered it up, you've already lost most of the weight. :laughing:
The NY Transformer pays out more since it's longer term.

For all those complaining that it's a scam... It's a business that helps you have the motivation to lose weight. I've been doing games since 2013, I've won all but one. The risk of losing money is more of a motivation to me than winning money. If you want to try one where you can REALLY win good money (won $2400 on top of my initial bet this past year) try Healthy Wage, if it's about the money for you.

Congratulations to us winners who bought into making $3.25. And why? Because the owners of this site take 25% of winnings. What an absolute scam. What exactly does diet bet need 25% of our money for? I’ll wait.

You do know that you agreed to them taking 25% when you signed up, right? Just becuase you can't or won't read doesn't make it a scam. Not only are they a business, out to make money, but they also have lots of expenses. IT staff, people verifying weigh ins, I'm sure they have an office somewhere, servers to run the site on, it all adds up.

I participated in this one thinking they were all the same, one big pot and the winners split it. I had no clue that some of them they were keeping a lot of the bet money

This is the way every dietbet I've been part of calculates the winnings:
3,223 (players in this game) x entry fee
3,223 x 40= 128,920
In our case 5,000 extra added= $133,920
Dietbet states they take 10-25%.
Every db I've done 25% is the fee which in our case leaves $100,440.
This is divided by the 2310 winners to get the winnings of $43.48, or a net winnings of 3.48. If you paid the extra $5 for membership that gives you chances to win additional prizes but the fee is not added to the pot. While I think the fee should not have been taken out of the extra 5,000 my calculations show this would have only made a difference of 54 cents.
3223 x 40 = 128,920. Minus 25 % fee leaves 96,690 + 5,000= 101,690
101,690÷ 2310 = 44.02.

I would have liked winning more and that has happened on other dietbets but I'm getting close to my goal weight and these groups have helped. I love the encouragement from others, recipe ideas and other motivation and this group has been great.

@ Alexis J, The 44.02 would have been the case if the 25% fee was not taken out of the bonus 5,000 but apparently it was. That's why we received 43.49.

Everyone who is unhappy should read what they signed up for. It is layed out how diet bets works. They state how much of a cut they take to pay for their expenses.

  • Happy Friday! As we wait for this game to finalize, I wanted to touch base. You've been such an amazing source of inspiration and motivation this month and I've truly enjoyed being part of your journeys!

    I know we're all excited to see the final pot! It's worth remembering that the payout is directly tied to the number of people who achieve their goals. January is a popular time for weight loss efforts, which means we might have a lot of winners – which is fantastic! However, it also means the individual payouts might be smaller.

    Remember why you started and what you have accomplished this month! It's about prioritizing our health and well-being, and shedding a few pounds. I'm incredibly proud of each and every one of you for taking that step. My first DietBet was a $100 game, and while the payout wasn't as large as I'd hoped, the experience was invaluable. It ignited my own weight loss journey, leading to a 70-pound loss! The real win was the change in my life. I'm forever grateful for DietBet!

You can re-use an approved official weigh in within 24 hours or something like that. It will prompt you on screen when you go to “submit final weigh in”, another message will pop up that says “you have an official/approved weigh in of xyz lbs within the last 24 hours. Do you want to re-use it?” .. something like that.

  • What an inspiring group!! Some of you are off to an incredible start!

    Early on I saw some of you ask about your weigh-in goals and / or losing too much weight. The exact breakdowns are in our Make the New Year Magic Transformer FAQs, but I want to put your mind at ease about a few things.

    First, your goals are all set already based off your initial weigh-in. They will not change during this game. If you lose more this month, you're that far ahead for your Round 2 goal. To check your monthly goals click the Round Info button by your Round 1 progress on desktop, and All to the right of the Rounds at the top of the app.

    Second, you would have to be experiencing some very unhealthy weight loss to be disqualified during a round. Unless you experience an illness, in which case you can reach out to support@dietbet.com, losing 12% of your starting weight during one round is unlikely. See the breakdown for each round here.

    Third, there is a difference between our prizes for this game (awarded monthly to anyone active in this game, regardless of weigh-ins or membership) and Weekly Membership Prizes (awarded weekly to Members who have completed the weekly progress weigh-in by Wednesday of each week). Find more information here.

Steven, if you miss one of the Rounds, you just forfeit the winning for that Round (half of each monthly bet goes towards the Round winnings and half goes toward the overall winnings). Therefore, you can miss a round or two and still come out on top!

One thing to make sure of is that you don't miss the required Round 5 weigh-in. Everyone is required to have lost at least 6% at that point to continue so there are no unhealthy sprints to the finish.
